FA Carlsberg National League System Cup
The Reading Football League win 4-1 in their FA Carlsberg National League System Cup preliminary round tie against the Middlesex County League played at Yeading FC.
RFL fell behind to a scrambled goal from a long throw in on five minutes as Middx started the stronger, However, once Russell Benham saw a free kick come of the Middx cross, RFL started to take control of the match with the pace of Diak John and Ian Griffin posing problems on the left flank.
John equalised direct from a corner kick on fifteen minutes but were unable to score further in the first half and needed a Chris Elton full stretch save from a Middx free kick in the fortieth minute to keep the match level a the break.
Benham got the early break through in the fifty five minute and increased the lead further on seventy minutes as RFL went on to dominate the second period. Ryan Adams had a goal disallowed from a Carl Davies cross for a hand ball in the approach play but Davies scored the goal of the match on eighty minutes to wrap up an excellent team performance.
The only down point was the withdrawal of Jim Nightingale after the fourth goal due to injury and RFL playing the match out with ten men as all the substitution had been made.
Man of the match for RFL was defender Paul Mortimer.
